I spent five years at home full time with my child. I organized a group of at home dads who met on a regular basis and was also the Co-Chair of the Stow Area Parents Network during that time. I returned to the exact job I left: Director of Government Contracts at DSD Laboratories, Inc. (DSD). I wasn't expecting to return to my former employer, but I had kept in touch with DSD's Chief Financial Officer, and once I put my resume out there, they approached me with an offer I couldn't refuse.
I have a short commute, flexible hours, and a great vacation allowance. Interestingly, before I was hired, recruiters who saw my resume posted on Monster approached me because they found my experience as an at home dad a distinguishing feature of my background. My return to work enabled my wife to reduce her work hours and we are enjoying a nice balance of work and family time.
