Did you realize that internships are not only for recent college graduates?

Progressive companies offer paid internships to attract top-caliber professionals after a career break. 

Programs range in length from weeks to months and in compensation from stipends to salaries.



21 week paid programme beginning April 24, 2017 for individual who have taken a voluntary career break of at least 2 years.

8-10 week programme began in September 2015.

Enfield Council Programme, Career Returners, is a paid six month program for both male and female candidates who have taken a career break of at least two years. Starts May 3, 2017.

EY Reconnect Programme
United Kingdom


12 week paid programme began in September 2016 for individuals who have taken a voluntary career break of at least 2 years.

GE Restart


The Program focusses on hiring Women with a minimum 4 years of work experience and who have taken a career break of minimum one year.


Starting in 2016 a 3-6 month paid internship for women who have been out of the workforce for at least 6 months.

Began in 2014 a 12-24 week paid internship for women who have been out of the workforce for at least 1 year.



GTB runs its ten-week paid reentry program "Elevate" on a quarterly basis in its Dearborn, MI location. The program gives professionals with at least a two-year career break the opportunity to re-start their careers in the advertising industry.

Programme for women with at least two years of experience who have taken a career break. 

United Kingdom


HitReturn is a multi-company program. Participating companies are Centrica, Mars and Vodafone with coaching support provided by Women Returners. Paid 12-week internships at each company are offered in a range of functions. Men and women are eligible to apply. Minimum career break of at least 2 years. Began 2015 with first cohort in 1Q 2016.

12-week, full-time or part-time internships in technical and support functions within the construction industry, open to professionals with a career break of two years or more. Began in 2016.

Talent ReConnect


San Francisco Bay area, CA - Executive search/staffing firm for women from top MBA schools who are returning from career break. Returnships available in a variety of functions throughout the Bay Area, ranging from 20-40 hours/week, with the majority of them 30-40 hours/week or full time. Some portion of compensation goes to Talent ReConnect as a fee.

Career transition management programme for women professionals who have taken a break of 6 months or more. Minimum 500 hours engagement spread over 5-6 months.

21 class days spread out over a 12-month period.
