Did you realize that internships are not only for recent college graduates?

Progressive companies offer paid internships to attract top-caliber professionals after a career break. 

Programs range in length from weeks to months and in compensation from stipends to salaries.

Engineering, STEM

United Technologies RE-Empower Program
Arizona, California, Connecticut, Minnesota, Vermont

16 week paid program for individuals who have been out of the workforce for at least 2 years.


12 week paid internship program for individuals who have been out of the work force for at least 2 years. 

Part- and full-time roles in accounting and finance; both short- and long-term opportunities offered. Began 2015. 

Reconnect offers jobs to former women employees (2+ years of full-time employment) who have been on a career break for 1-5 years. Began April 2014.

Three one-day workshops, executive coaching and access to employees and experts from Bank of America/Merrill Lynch. Twenty places were available in the 2012 inaugural class. At that time, individuals who have taken a career break of three years or more to care for family members are eligible.

The 2016 Programme, which piloted in Charlotte, NC in 2016, includes a one-day Conference for 60 participants, two full-day workshops for 30 of those participants, and a 10-week pilot internship with BofA Merrill for small number of successful candidates. Eligible applicants must have been out of the workforce for one year or more.

12 week paid internship for individuals wanting to reenter the workforce after a career break.

3 month paid programme began in January 2016 for individuals who have taken a voluntary career break of at least 18 months.

Credit Suisse Real Returns
New York, Mumbai, Pune, India, Switzerland, United Kingdom

Paid 12-week employment program began 2014. Participants work on a short-term assignment in one of the Credit Suisse business areas in New York, London, Zurich or India. Continued in 2015 and is still running.

The Back2Business Program is a pilot program of the Financial Women's Association. Participating companies are BMO Capital Markets, Deloitte, New York Life and PGIM, the Global Investment Management Businesses of Prudential. Paid internships at each company will be offered in a range of functions in the NY tri-state area in 2017. Men and women eligible to apply. Minimum 5 years in financial services and career break of at least 2 years.

10-week Reentry Internship focused on credit analysis. Located in NYC. Program launched in 2017.

Goldman Sachs Returnship
New Jersey, New York, Utah, Hong Kong, Bangalore

Paid, 10-week internship program for professionals looking to restart their careers after an extended absence from the workforce. Launched 2008 in New York/New Jersey. Also offered in Bangalore and occasionally Salt Lake City.

HSBC 'Take Two'

12 week full-time internship program.

JP Morgan Chase Reentry Program
New York, United Kingdom

13- to 19-week paid reentry internship program. Launched in 2013 in the Asset Management division, ReEntry expanded to legal, investment banking, internal finance, and additional areas of the firm. Ongoing. Also began in London, October 2016, with an 18 week programme.

KPMG Return to Work
United Kingdom

12-week internship programme. Begins January 2017 for Tax and Management Consultancy professionals who have taken a career break of 18 months or more. Management Consulting roles are based in London, and Tax roles in London, Glasgow, Birmingham or Manchester. The application deadline is 12 September 2016.

Lloyd's Banking Group
United Kingdom

Paid 10-week internship for those with retail banking or another professional services environment with senior managerial experience who have been on career break for a minimum of 2 years.

16 week paid internship for those individuals looking to reenter the workforce after a career break. This is the third year the programme has been running. 

Macquarie Returner Program
New York, Pennsylvania

12 week paid program.

12 week paid programme began in September 2016 for individuals who have taken a voluntary career break of at least 2 years and is continuing in 2017

Consulting, Financial

20 week program for individuals who have taken a career break of at least 2 years.

Financial, General

3-month paid reentry internships for individuals who have taken at least a 2-year career break. Launched 2017.
