Quarterly Tech Tips - LinkedIn Assessments, Article Summaries, Reading View and More

Try out these apps and tips from our January, February and March iRelaunch newsletters

Did you know LinkedIn offers skills validation to showcase your abilities to potential employers? Or that there was an app that would summarize any article (no matter how long) into five key bullet points? Do you know how to use "reading view" on your phone? Are you aware of the many tools you can use to organize your life? If not, this blog is for you - we've gathered the monthly "Tech Takeaway"  segments (recommended by our iRelaunch staff) from our monthly newsletter and presented them here so that you can refer to them months after the newsletter has been published. We'll publish this list in quarterly posts, so you'll know just where to go when you're thinking, "didn't I see something recently about ...

... An App That Can Showcase Your Expertise - LinkedIn's Skills Assessment Tool

In our March newsletter, Mindy Berkower, iRelaunch Chief Client Officer and General Counsel, recommended a tool that, "sounds like a super tool for our community to showcase their skills." Stand out from the crowd and let employers know what you bring to the table. The LinkedIn Skills Assessment tool allows you to select one of the available Skill Assessments you’d like to take (scroll to the "Skills and Endorsements" section of your profile to find quizzes on more than 50 areas of expertise). Any results are kept private to you, and if you pass (in the 70th percentile or above) you will have the option to add a “verified skill” badge to your profile. If you don’t pass, you have complete control over the visibility of the results and can brush up on your skills so you can pass next time. Quizzes can be retaken in 90 days.

... An App That Summarizes Any Article, Text, Document, Webpage or Essay in a Click

Also in our March newsletter, I recommended a tool (with extensions for Firefox and Chrome browsers) that makes online reading so much faster and easier. Don't get me wrong, I consider myself a book addict and can get lost in a rabbit hole of interesting articles (you wouldn't believe the number of articles I've read recently that start with "CO" and "-19"). But sometimes I have to set a limit to the amount of time I can spend finding all the answers. That's why TLDR (an acronym for "Too Long, Didn't Read") is such a great tool. All you have to do is copy and paste the URL or text of any article into the TLDR field to get a basic summary (and keywords, if you choose). Give it a try here

... A Way to Make Article Reading Easier with Reading View

Even though a picture may be worth a thousand words, it can sure take up a lot of real estate on a phone screen … especially when you just want to read the article that accompanies the image. Shannon Amspacher, Manager of Strategic Initiatives at iRelaunch, shared a tech tip in our February newsletter that makes reading those articles much easier: reading view. Follow the screen shots below to see how it works on an iPhone.
