A New Year, A New You: Reinvention in 2020

A fresh decade and a new year are upon us with all the promise and possibility of what’s next in your world. It’s never too late to reinvent yourself and design a new life. The thought of change can be scary especially with the risk of something new. Here’s a helpful step-by-step guide to start taking ACTION on all that is possible and make your wildest dreams come true.

Take time to dream and scheme … what do I desire?

What will bring you joy? Brainstorming can help you gain clarity on where you really want to be and what you want to achieve. The flipside of this exercise is also determining what you DO NOT want so old habits are put to the test and not repeated. A Vision Board is an excellent tool to create a physical reminder of what this may look like. Whether it is getting back into shape, working part-time outside the home, or creating a healthy eating regime for your family, a physical touchstone is a powerful reminder to keep motivated and inspired.

Focus on YOU

Ask yourself the important question of WHY this is so important and what you ultimately want to change? This will be a crucial benchmark to keep coming back to again and again as you tease out what’s next. Is this an old dream you now want to spearhead? An inkling or nudging from your soul? Often when we feel stuck or immobilized, it’s difficult to see what’s around the corner or imaginable. Take stock in your skills from a creative angle and highlight your true genius zone. What did you love about a job from the past? Was it your working environment that stood out?  A chance to use a second language or communicate with other like-minded people? Sometimes a glimpse into your past can glean a natural stepping-stone towards another opportunity.

Express Yourself

Tell people what you want to reinvent and put yourself out there. By changing your energy you increase possibilities and create connections. Show up in a different way and STRETCH yourself. Get out of your comfort zone and take a chance… shake things up in order to get your mind moving. Spend some time in your favorite bookstore or library and search the shelves on topics that may interest you. Join a meetup or virtual networking group in your area. Take a class to brush up on your computer expertise or resume writing tips. Make an intentional effort to learn some new skills and brush up on some old ones. Make it fun and doable … the rest will follow.

Take small, consistent steps

Reinvention is not done overnight or with the wave of a magic wand. Little by little, each cumulative effort becomes significant. By changing habits and thought patterns you consistently take ACTION.  I’m a huge fan of the age-old saying “how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time." Make bold intentional choices and share your outcomes and desires.

Celebrate your small successes and STAY POSITIVE!

Now is the time to bring out the real you and become more than you’ve been in years. It’s your bright and shining moment … step into all that is attainable. Remember, you can do this!!
