Energy Policy Analyst, Canadian Consulate
4 year career break

"I'm educated as a nuclear engineer and I worked for years in IT before taking a four year career break. I began my relaunch by enrolling in the MIT Career Reengineering Program. The program involves taking a semester long course at MIT and completing a research project in my field of interest. My focus is sustainable energy solutions and I took a course in that area to help me make the transition professionally. The final part of the MIT program was an internship, which I completed at the Canadian Consulate (I'm Canadian). I am now employed there as a contractor, where I'm researching clean energy technologies with a focus on commercial opportunities for Canada, and also assisting with clean energy policy analysis. This has been a great way to begin the next phase of my career."
