Real Estate Accounting, McDonald's
18 year career break

"After completing my BS and Master of Accountancy from DePaul University in Chicago, I successfully passed the CPA exam and began my career as a staff accountant doing audit work at Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co in Zurich. I then did similar work at Ernst & Whinney in Chicago, and subsequently moved to McDonalds Corporation, where I worked in financial accounting and reporting. I left the workforce following the birth of my first child and spent the next 18 years at home raising my four children. In September 2007, my husband died suddenly and I knew I had to return to the workforce. I called Carol and Vivian at iRelaunch in April 2008 prior to their May 2008 Forum at Lake Forest, asking if there was any point in my attending since I had been out of the workforce for so long. They said 'absolutely.'

"With renewed confidence and a better understanding of 21st-century job hunting, I diligently pursued opportunities with my former employers, E&Y and McDonalds, as well as with other firms. Happily, within seven months of starting my search, I was rehired by McDonald's in the real estate accounting area."
